Douglas County Community Health Focus Groups

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department and community partners will be hosting focus groups across the county to learn more about the conditions and causes of key health issues in the county. The following are the dates for focus groups occurring at the Eudora Community Center: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 7 PM Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 7 PM Light refreshments will be served. Children are welcome to play in the gym or in the lobby of the Community Center. Each focus group will include:

-A discussion of the strengths of Douglas County

-Opportunities for community members to share their perspective about conditions and causes of health issues, as well as the ways that these issues have an impact on the community

-Occasions for community members to provide thoughts about possible solutions

The information provided by community members will be used to shape the Health Department’s understanding of priorities to be addressed through planning and collaborative action. For more information, please feel free to reach out to Chris Tilden (ctilden@ldchealth.org) or Vicki Collie-Akers (vcollie@ku.edu).

The community health assessment is a comprehensive, countywide effort to understand the health status of Douglas County residents, and factors that have an impact on health. Led by a steering committee of more than 20 community partners, the community health assessment began in the fall of 2016. The issues identified in the community health assessment, and therefore selected as priorities, will be the subject of planning efforts scheduled to begin July 2017.
