During the coming weeks, city crews will be cleaning ditches certain areas of the city to allow rain to flow more efficiently in the ditches. City crews clean ditches by removing leaves and other natural debris that collects and grows within them. To keep storm water flowing smoothly during heavy rains, please keep ditches free from weeds and thick grass. When our community receives high volumes of rain, localized flooding occurs in certain areas of the city that don’t have storm pipes. Residents in the area (which covers the blocks between 12th and 15th Street and Cherry and Main) might experience puddling and poor drainage due to the lack of storm water pipes and storm drains that would more easily convey rain to creeks and rivers.
