Responsibilities
The city administrator's main responsibilities are to manage the city’s business and carry out the governing body policies. Daily duties include:
  • Coordinating the work of all departments and employees
  • Enforcing laws and city ordinances
  • Distributing budgeted funds as authorized by the governing body
  • Preparing the annual budget for governing body adoption

About the City

The City of Eudora is located approximately 10 minutes east of Lawrence, Kansas and 15 minutes west of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. While conveniently located near the many amenities of a university community and metropolitan area, the City of Eudora retains a distinct small town atmosphere and remains an attractive place to raise a family.

The City of Eudora, a city of the second-class, operates as a Mayor-Council form of government who are elected at large by the voters of the City of Eudora. The governing body is responsible for passing resolutions and ordinances, establishing policies for the city, and approving the city’s annual budget.

City Council Meetings
City council meetings are held the second and fourth Monday evenings of each month at 7:00 pm at the Eudora Municipal Building. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in all local government meetings.

City Administrator
The office of the city administrator is the office of the chief executive of city government. City Administrator John Harrenstein is appointed by the city commission for an indefinite term and serves as the city’s chief executive and administrative officer. The city administrator’s office supervises and directs the administration of all city departments to ensure that the laws, ordinances and resolutions of the city are enforced. The city administrator’s office is responsible for recommending measures for adoption by the city commission, which are deemed necessary for the welfare of the citizen and the efficient administration of municipal government.
